Unusual cat: The neva masquerade

Like the Siberian from which it comes, the neva masquerade probably comes from the south of the Caucasus and would have arrived in Siberia with settlers from this region. It could also be that it is the result of crosses between cats from Western Europe and felines from Siberia. Either way, the breed stood out for its ability to hunt rodents on local farms.

It is a massive cat: the males can weigh up to 9 kg, the females being much smaller. He is very muscular, with a powerful and robust appearance. Its ribs and croup are rounded; her hips and shoulders are the same width. Its legs are of medium length and its neck is round, short and well muscled. Its coat, medium to long, is shiny and perfectly protects the cat from cold and humidity. He is always colorpoint (meaning his coat is light with dark ends), in all colors.

The head is short and wide, in the shape of an inverted trapezium with rounded contours. The nose is rather short, the muzzle round and the whiskers long and well furnished. His eyes, large and almost round, are wide apart and always blue.

Good to know

Like the Siberian, the New Masquerade is considered one of the most hypoallergenic breeds known to date: it naturally produces little allergenic protein Fel d 1, which is responsible for allergies in 85% of people allergic to cats. It is also a very solid breed and has a higher than average longevity. She grows slowly, reaching her final size around the age of 3 years.

He is also a very affectionate cat and attached to his master. He is sociable with his congeners, other animals and children. Intelligent and curious, he would be quite talkative and quite calm on a daily basis, although he needs to exert himself and exercise his hunting skills. It tolerates cold very well and will be very happy outdoors, for example in a house with a garden. It is important to brush him once a week to maintain his lush coat.
