A strong explosion occurred this Saturday at a gas pipeline not far from Saint PETERSBOURG in the Vsevolozhsk district, located east of the city of St. Petersburg in the Leningrad region, regional authorities report to theRussian news agency RIA Novosti.

A fire ensued, as also shown by several videos of witnesses circulating on social networks.

“According to preliminary information, the fire is being extinguished (…) near Vsevolozhsk by two rescue teams”, it is indicated on the Telegram channel of the Leningrad region.

The authorities, who ensure that the fire no longer represents an immediate danger for the population, are conducting research to clarify the circumstances of this explosion.

Another explosion this Saturday morning

The incident comes just hours after another explosion at a residential building on Sakhalin Island in Russia’s Far East on Saturday morning.

Several floors of the building collapsed, and nine people were killed, including four children, according to local governor Valery Limarenko.

According to Russian media, it was an explosion resulting from a gas leak. About 60 rescue workers were dispatched to the scene to clear the rubble, according to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
