In the heat which may not be appropriate during qualifying to come this Saturday (3 p.m.), Sergio Perez was able to be the fastest during free practice 3 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Mexican from Red Bull finished with a lap of 1’24”982. He is ahead of his teammate Max Verstappen (1’25”134). Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) snatches the third time in 1’25”222.
The session was marked by the red flag following a technical problem on Pierre Gasly’s Alpha Tauri. The Frenchman lost his right front wheel flange, without any particular shock, testimony to the wear of the mechanics for this last GP of the season.
Once again, the Ferraris were handicapped by tires that were degrading too quickly. Esteban Ocon (Alpine) set the 11th fastest time of the session (+1”091).
