Actor Sofiane Bennacer indicted for rape and violence against several ex-girlfriends

The 25-year-old actor was indicted last October. He denies these accusations and sued for defamation.

Actor Sofiane Bennacer, starring in the film The Almond Trees currently in theaters, was indicted last October for rape and violence against several ex-companions, the Mulhouse prosecution told BFMTV, confirming information from the Parisian.

Aged 25, the actor was placed under judicial control, with a ban on going to Strasbourg, Mulhouse, as well as in Île-de-France.

The case began in 2021, after a rape complaint filed by one of his former companions. Since then, three other women have reported having suffered rape or violence from the actor, bringing the number of complainants to four. Sofiane Bennacer was indicted in the first three complaints, and was placed under the status of assisted witness for a fourth.

Still according to information from the Mulhouse prosecutor’s office, Sofiane Bennacer denies these accusations and has filed a complaint against the four complainants for defamation.

Selected by the Académie des Césars

According to information from Parisian, the rumors were insistent in the middle of the cinema concerning the facts reproached today to Sofiane Bennacer. So much so that his selection last Thursday as one of the 32 new faces selected by the Committee of the Academy of Caesars was stormy.

Still according to information from the daily, the troupe of young students from the National Theater of Strasbourg was relocated last June, so that Sofiane Bennacer, who was performing at the time in the Alsatian city, does not meet his former classmates.

The actor had joined the Strasbourg troupe in 2019, but had not finished his schooling. The management of the establishment had seized the Ministry of Culture for acts of sexist, sexual violence and harassment. The ministry had in turn made a report.

The actress and director of the film The Almond Trees Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi was heard as a witness in the case, adds The Parisian.
