“17.7% increase for canned vegetables. The price increases announced by Leclerc”. Charles SANNAT’s editorial

My dear impertinents, dear impertinents,

The oracle of the supermarket, what am I saying, the clairvoyant of the shopping carts, the astrologer of the heads of the gondola, or even the soothsayer who read the entrails of the gutted and vacuum-packed chickens of the supermarkets spoke.

Michel Edouard Leclerc spoke.

For him, who has made the cheapest life the fight of his life, it is becoming more and more expensive!

He announces terrible increases to us according to the figures given to him by his teams concerning the requests for price increases demanded by suppliers in fury and themselves overwhelmed by double-digit inflation and who had been subject to the diet for years.

The increases we are being asked for in 2023:

– Canned vegetables: +17.74%
– Canned fruit: +20.55%
– Coffee: +10.53%
– Animal products: +41%
– Starches: +10%
– Poultry: +13%
– Paper: +11%

The increases on paper will undoubtedly be even greater, especially on all so-called hygiene paper because it is terribly expensive in energy to manufacture.

For food, the price of containers, whether tins or glass jars, prices will also explode because this also requires a lot of energy, and when energy is expensive, glass prices fly away.

Inflation will take hold in Europe and throughout the world. If we get closer to this first inflation peak, inflation will probably not go back below 2% per year, for the simple and good reason that we now have structural inflationary factors, starting with the ecological transition which requires do much less with much less energy and much more expensively.

It is already too late, but all is not lost.

Prepare yourselves !
